When we put UV LED and COVID-19 in relation, we mainly focus on the UV-C category, which among the possible applications, includes the sterilization of water and surfaces and rapid and immediate disinfection in the healthcare context.
Since the COVID-19 epidemic has spread worldwide, disinfection is a constant need. In response to this need, many hospitals have adopted UV lighting as a natural disinfectant for rooms, equipment and even masks.
In this regard, the IUVA (International Ultraviolet Association) recently published a fact sheet on UV-C disinfection to fight the COVID-19 virus, talking about efficacy, safety and existing standards. Based on current disinfection data and empirical evidence, the IUVA believes that UV-C technologies may play an important role in reducing virus transmission. Well-known disinfectant for air, water and surfaces, that if applied correctly, UV-C can actually help mitigate the risk of contracting COVID-19 infection.
